A Look at What Advanced Energy Countries Are Up To

Here’s a story about what the Scots and English are up to with offshore wind – for those of you who are interested in what the advanced nations are up to.

Note that the article talks about the rapid strides the Europeans are making toward tethered floating turbine platforms.  This will allow turbines to be sited in very deep water where winds are much stronger and constant.  It will also reduce initial construction costs, as well as maintenance and replacement costs.

Below is a table of all installed offshore wind capacity in the world.  The US does not appear on this list because the US has no installed offshore wind power capacity.  Zero.  The English, Scots and Welsh, as well as Northern Ireland, shown below as the UK, now outstrip even world leaders such as Denmark, Belgium and China.
